The Urban Sherpas

The band started with a vision to play music with grove and melody and soon expanded their horizons. The Sherpas explored the musical influences of bossa and sambas, with original member Dave Gill holding down the groove at the drum kit. Guitarist Steve Harris’ rock background gave the band a melodic edge, while keyboardist Clyde Kelly’s pure jazz influences enhanced the group’s versatility. The additions of saxophonist Craig Solenberger and bassist Andrew McComas further defined the unique Sherpa sound, which came to be regarded by the members as “Groove Jazz.” Though primarily an instrumental group, the Urban Sherpas invited vocalist Jim Plaskett to lend his considerable talents frequently during their sets.
