Pleasant Valley Boys
If you close your eyes and listen to the music of Matt & George and Their Pleasant Valley Boys, you might well mistake it for something from the 1940s. And the Pleasant Valley Boys even dress in period costume and perform the old fashioned way, into a single microphone! And in addition to their bluegrass music, Matt & George’s program features the gospel singing of the Pleasant Valley Quartet, an honest to goodness old fashioned gospel quartet.
Mandolinist Matt Dudman is an authority on bluegrass music of the late 1940s, having collected, studied, given workshops, and contributed to various scholarly publications on the subject. He has appeared at all the major California events, and across the country at the IBMA ‘Fan Fest’ in Kentucky and on Louisiana’s Abita Opry. As for banjoist George Goodell, for his Scruggs-addiction, he too has been rewarded as a top hired gun for live and studio work in Northern California. Together Matt & George have performed on ABC Television, at the International Bluegrass Music Museum’s River of Music Party (ROMP) in Owensboro, KY at the California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Festival, among many other venues.
Matt and George’ sidemen are some of the very best sidemen in Northern California. Their Pleasant Valley Boys include Jenny Lynn on guitar, Fiddlin’ Jim Allison, and Mark “Cousin Rainwater” Eagleton on the string bass.
The Pleasant Valley Boys frequently entertain for weddings, corporate events, parties and the like and the crowds are universally pleased, always having a blast. The Boys provide fun for all, with hot instrumental licks and sweet vocal harmonies, backed by a tight rhythm section, all packed into a fast paced, entertaining music show like you’ve never seen before. Well, at least not since 1948.
